This is a three-part series on the history and future of In Situ Recovery Mining (ISR), originally known as Solution Mining. It was previously called In Situ Leach (ISL) mining, but has been changed to ISR to accurately describe the process.
Because of the nature of many uranium deposits in the United States, Australia and Kazakhstan, ISR mining has become quite popular. According to the World Nuclear Association, 21 percent of the world’s uranium production came about from ISR mining in 2004.
What you will read in this series has never before been compiled into one readily accessible document. StockInterview.com investigated the true roots of the ISR process, interviewing the individual who helped pioneer and develop the present day ISR method of uranium recovery. Stockinterview.com conducted interviews with some of the world’s top ISR experts, those who have built and operated ISR operations. We hope this series helps you better understand the uranium industry. |

Wyoming: The True Birthplace of In Situ Recovery Mining
What is the In Situ Recovery (ISR) method of uranium recovery? How was the ISR process developed and why? Find out in Part One. StockInterview.com traces the evolution of the ISR method. In this modern era of uranium mining, extremely skilled engineers, hydrologists and geologists establish ISR mining operations. Most insiders compare an ISR operation to a water treatment plant. |

Exploding the Myth of Uranium “Pounds in the Ground”
What are the three key elements a company’s uranium property must have for a successful ISR project? Most investors bought into a company’s story on the basis of “pounds in the ground,” but the recovery of uranium through the ISR method requires a property to have other criteria. What are the four questions an investor must always ask a company before investing? |

Reversing Mother Nature
We talked to North America’s leading In Situ Recovery (ISR) uranium mining engineers, and had them explain exactly how ISR worked. Most of the significant ISR operations in the United States were designed and/or constructed by these engineers. They explained how ISR mining is really just reversing the process of Mother Nature. |
