The State of New Mexico may be in the first phase of its own nuclear renaissance. This state was the world’s largest uranium production center before the industry suffered through a twenty-year depression. Now, uranium miners have come back. More than a dozen uranium companies are now exploring or hoping to permit and operate uranium production centers in New Mexico. A recent NRC approval for a uranium enrichment facility in southeastern New Mexico attracted worldwide attention and may give the sector a major boost over the next few years.
